Wellington - Ferry across the Cook Strait :: Monday, November 01, 2004 - 11:01 PM (GMT)

New Zealand

We left Taupo behind and headed south towards Wellington, where we were to catch the ferry over to the South Island.
The weather in Wellington was horrendous and definately lives up to its moniker of 'Windy Wellington'. It rained for 2 days none stop whilst we were there and did put a dampner on sightseeing.

We did venture into the city on one day, but we just couldn't stand the weather as it reminded us too much of back home!
We managed to get to Te Papa (Our Place) Museum, which was very interesting and informative.

We woke on the morning of our ferry journey to sunshine and we're so glad as the ferry journey is said to be one of the nicest in the world for views.
The ferry passes through the marvellous Queen Charlotte Sounds, where dolphins and seals can sometimes be spotted.
Whilst waiting to board the ferry, we met Steve and Beth who had seen our van a few times on the road and loved it. Sat for a while chatting about each others trips and then boarded the ferry.

Managed to get a few nice pictures on the way out of Wellington Harbour, but then the weather decided to turn nasty.
The cinema on the ferry was showing 'Strange Bedfellows' starring Paul Hogan, so we sat and watched that. Before we knew it, we were in Picton on the South Island.
