Picton to Kaikoura
Date: Nov 01, 2004 - 11:20 PM

16th September - 19th September 2004 ~ Picton, Nelson & Kaikoura

After spending the night at the campsite in Picton, we drove along the scenic Queen Charlotte route over to Nelson.
Along the way, we passed a farmstead with the name 'Rochdale' (for those that don't know, that's where we're both from in the UK). We stopped and knocked on but no-one was home. Either that or they were too scared to open the door to us!

Motoring on, we made it to Nelson where we went to the World of Wearable Art and Collectable Cars Museum, which had a fantastic collection of bizarre wearable clothing creations and an even better collection of cars.
Sadly, you weren't allowed to take any pictures so you'll have to take our word for it on good it was!

Backtracking a little, we left Nelson and ventured down the east coast of the South Island towards Kaikoura.
Kaikoura is a popular spot for seeing dolphins and with Joo loving them we just had to go and see if we could spot some. The only way of spotting them is by taking a guided tour and Joo would rather see them naturally in the wild.

We had a great time there and I'd say that Kaikoura was Joo's favourite place in New Zealand.
Unfortunately, we didn't manage to see any from the beach but we did get up to the seal colony just out of town.
The article appeared in the Rochdale Observer whilst we were in Kaikoura, so we had a flurry of text messages and phone calls. Fame at last for the 2 of us!

Before we left Kaikoura, we managed to catch up with Lisa and Emma who we met in the US.
They're both doing a similar route to us and we're sure to cross paths along the way again.

Enjoy the piccies...
