 Cameron Highlands
Saturday, March 05, 2005 - 05:00 AM (GMT)

Cameron Highlands [ Sunday 6th February - Tuesday 8th February 2005 ]

The Cameron Highlands is renowned for it's cool climate and is home to a number of tea plantations. Apparently, they also do cracking tea and scones so we just had to go.

"Getting there is half the fun" as Clark W. Griswald once said and that's certainly true about getting up to the town of Tanah Rata in the Highlands.
Located high up in the hills, it took us over 2 hours to do just 60 Kms through windy roads and hairpin bends.

 Kuching - Borneo
Friday, March 04, 2005 - 10:00 AM (GMT)

Kuching - Borneo [ Wednesday 2nd February - Saturday 5th February 2005 ]

Our visions of Borneo were of tiny villages, jungle and very little else. We were therefore suprised to find Kuching as big as it was, complete with the ubiquitous McDonalds and Hilton hotel.

We stayed at the Borneo B&B, which had rooms in a family's home who were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Across the river are a number of traditional villages, so we took a 'tambang' across and had a wander through some of the streets.
The local people were very friendly and the children were practising their English on us which they found highly amusing.

 Kuala Lumpur
Thursday, March 03, 2005 - 10:48 AM (GMT)

KL [ Saturday 29th January - Wednesday 9th January (on and off) ]

It's only a couple of hours from Melaka up to Kuala Lumpur and the coaches are extremely comfortable, so it was a breeze.
It wasn't a breeze explaining to our taxi driver where we were staying though.
We were staying on Tengkat Tong Shin, which is just off Jalan Changkat Bukit Bintang - bit of a mouthful, eh?!

Melaka [ Thursday 27th January - Saturday 29th January 2005 ]

We boarded the coach in Singapore and were heading to Melaka in Malaysia. The journey takes just 4 hours and after a brief stop for lunch, we arrived in Melaka at 3 PM.

Melaka is an historic port city on the Straits of Melaka and has some very historic buildings and unique architecture.
We stayed at the Sama-Sama guesthouse, whose owners where somewhat unique, too!
She seemed to be always in a daze or had a hangover - maybe both? Whilst we were there, she fell down a large steep set of steps.
Apparently, a regular occurence for her after she showed us her battle scars from previous falls.
