Christmas Eve and Christmas Day :: Tuesday, January 25, 2005 - 08:54 AM (GMT)

Australia

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day

Christmas Eve was very different this year - it was 30 degrees for a start!

We went out with Pip and Rodg (who we'd met in the YHA) and headed straight to the Scubar, who were having a Christmas Orphans party.
We were given presents of Chistmas hats and after a few beers, decided to head out down George Street and show them off.

After a few more beers in the Establishment Bar, we decided to head back to Scubar and party.
The place was packed when we got there and we partied until 3 in the morning. Great night but I reckon we'll pay for it the morning.

I was right, we did pay for it in the morning. We both woke up and were ruff as toast.
After exchanging a few small presents, we had to be showered and ready to get to Bondi for 11.

Sean and Caroline were renting a room in Bondi from Lou and Phil, and they'd invited us all over for a big BBQ.

There were 6 of us from Rochdale at the BBQ, which made it feel like home a little bit. The weather was shocking - it was really cloudy and there was a chill in the air. First Christmas down under and there's no sun - typical!

We stuffed our faces with kebabs, steaks and other Aussie BBQ 'tucker' throughout the day.
The beer was going down suprisingly well, considering last nights intake.

There was a brief entertainment interlude, when Phil's cousin decided to jump off their roof on his brand new $6000 (2500 quid) bike. Crazy!

When the 'sun' went in, we decided to retire inside were Lou was knocking up some cocktails. We'd all been drinking since 11am but we were knocking these cocktails back for fun.

Lou and Phil's front room was turned into a dancefloor and we boogied in there until 04:00. It would've been longer, but we got a knock on the door from the police.
They weren't impressed with the noise and we were told to turn it down. Taking this as our cue, we jumped in a taxi and headed back to the hostel in the city.

Christmas Day may not have been the same as sharing the day in good old England with a frost, friends and family, but it was still good fun.

Thanks to Lou & Phil and Caroline & Sean for a great Christmas Day.
