Melaka :: Thursday, March 03, 2005 - 10:22 AM (GMT)

Malaysia

Melaka [ Thursday 27th January - Saturday 29th January 2005 ]

We boarded the coach in Singapore and were heading to Melaka in Malaysia. The journey takes just 4 hours and after a brief stop for lunch, we arrived in Melaka at 3 PM.

Melaka is an historic port city on the Straits of Melaka and has some very historic buildings and unique architecture.
We stayed at the Sama-Sama guesthouse, whose owners where somewhat unique, too!
She seemed to be always in a daze or had a hangover - maybe both? Whilst we were there, she fell down a large steep set of steps.
Apparently, a regular occurence for her after she showed us her battle scars from previous falls.

Our time in Melaka was mainly spent wandering around the old streets of the town.
On the Friday night we visited the street market in Chinatown, and as it was almost Chinese New Year the red lanterns were hanging everywhere. The Chinese temples even doubled up as karaoke halls, which was a strange site!

We had a good time in Melaka and it was nice to break up the journey from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur - our next destination.
