Great Ocean Road & Cape Otway :: Wednesday, January 19, 2005 - 09:56 AM (GMT)

Australia

Saturday 4th December 2004 - Tuesday 7th December 2004 [ Great Ocean Road & Cape Otway ]

We drove from Adelaide to Robe, where we spent the night and then onto Warrnambool for the next night. Warrnambool is the start of one of the world's most spectacular drives, the Great Ocean Road.
It's a road by the ocean and it's great.

After stopping at The Grotto, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge, we finally got to the Twelve Apostles. You can only actually see seven of these amazing rock stacks from the viewing points, so you feel a tad cheated.

We headed inland up towards the Otway Ranges, to do the Otway Fly. 'The Fly', is a series of walkways high up in a rainforest, unfortunately as we got there a fierce electrical storm was brewing on the horizon.

Due to the height of the walkways, there was a chance they'd be struck. Not wanting to be fried alive, we decided to drive onto Lorne, where we'd spend the night and come back the next day.

We weren't too bothered about driving all the way back to the Otway Fly, so we just drove down to Otway Lighthouse. At the side of the road leading down to the lighthouse, were quite a few koalas up in the trees. We stopped for a while and just watched them up there sleeping.
They look like little teddy bears and don't seem real.

Back on the road again, we drove through Apollo Bay, Lorne, Aireys Inlet and up to Torquay. We decided at Torquay that we'd spend the night just outside Melbourne in Queenscliff.
We'd leave the drive into Melbourne for the next day.
